The need of systematic nodal dissection for the future staging and decision making

Yuji Tachimori

Abstract

The classification of malignant tumor is based on the anatomical extent of disease assessed with three categories: T categories—the extent of primary tumor, N categories—the absence or presence and extent of regional lymph nodal metastasis, and M categories—the absence or presence of distant metastasis. Nodal involvement is a strong predictor of survival.
