Prof. Lorenzo Spaggiari, was born in Casina (RE) on May, 9th, 1961. He was graduated at the Medical School in 1988, and he obtained the research doctorate (PhD) in Surgical Cardio-Thoracic Physiopathology in 1995. Subsequently, he completed the residency in General Surgery and Cardio-Thoracic Surgery.
He worked from 1988 to 1994 at the Department of General Thoracic and Vascular Surgery of the University of Parma.
In 1991 and 1992 he was research fellow in Madrid, Paris and Bordeaux.
In 1993, and 1995 he was clinical fellow and assistant surgeon respectively, at the division of thoracic surgery, Marie Lannelongue Hospital, Paris.
In 1996 he worked as consultant thoracic surgeon at the Institute Mutualiste Montsouris, Paris. In May, 1998 he became deputy director in the division of thoracic surgery at the European Institute of Oncology, Milan, and in January 2003, director of the same division.
From 2006 he is professor of Thoracic Surgery at the University of Milan, School of Medicine.
Currently he is Director of Lung Cancer Program at the European Institute of Oncology, Milan, and Chief of Surgical Thoracic Department.
He is member of the following societies: European Association of cardio-thoracic Surgery, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, European Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Italian Society of Thoracic Surgery, fellow of the European Board of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and he is member of Robotic Working Group ( TDWG ) Robotic and Thoracic Oncology.
