D. Tyler Greenfield, MD is a Cardiothoracic Surgeon practicing in the Tri-Cities region of Northeast Tennessee. Dr. Greenfield has been in the active practice of Cardiothoracic Surgery for over 25 years. He is an active member of the surgical staff at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN, Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, TN and the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center in Mountain Home (Johnson City), TN. Dr. Greenfield is a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at the East Tennessee State University Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City, TN and previously held appointments as a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at Texas Tech University School of Medicine in Lubbock, TX and as Assistant Professor of Surgery at Tulane University Medical School in New Orleans, LA.

Specialty interests: Surgical treatment of lung and esophageal cancer; wound care and hyperbaric medicine. Dr. Greenfield is certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and has performed over 2500 heart, lung, esophageal and vascular procedures.

Education and Training: Dr. Greenfield earned his degree in medicine as an Alpha Omega Alpha member from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, TX and completed his postgraduate training in both General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University Hospitals in Richmond, VA. He also subsequently served a fellow in Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery at the Hospital for Sick Children/University of Toronto in Toronto, Canada. Dr. Greenfield also completed a clinical fellowship in Endovascular Surgery in Peoria, IL

Publications and Speaking: Dr. Greenfield has been published in several medical journals and has been a speaker at several state and regional medical meetings.

Clinical Trials: Dr. Greenfield has served as PI or Sub-Investigator in several clinical trials. 

Service and Teaching: Dr. Greenfield is actively involved in teaching of surgical residents and medical students at the East Tennessee State University Quillen College of Medicine. He has also mentored several PA students throughout his career and served as Chairman of the Scholarship Committee of the STSA. Dr. Greenfield has also held numerous medical staff leadership positions at Holston Valley Medical Center, including Chairman of the Dept. of Surgery and Medical Staff President. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for that facility

Professional Associations: Dr. Greenfield is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association (STSA), and the American Heart Association (AHA) as well as other state and regional medical societies.
